What is a Virtual Assistant & Why do I need one?

Renee Sobol - Virtual Assistant: creating more time for you by solving your business problems

You may have heard of the term Virtual Assistant or VA, but do you know what a Virtual Assistant really is? According to the Wanderlust Virtual Assistant podcast, a Virtual Assistant or VA, is a remote contractor that helps with 4 main areas of backend business. These areas are:

  1. Administration (admin)

  2. Technology (tech)

  3. Design

  4. Marketing

A Virtual Assistant is most often times an independent contractor who works remotely. A great example of the role a VA plays is to think of a baker. Now a baker probably wants to spend his or her time making cookies. But to effectively run a business, the baker may need to keep her website up to date, send out emails to customers, create advertisements, and have invoices and other spreadsheets to keep track of. The more time the baker spends on these tasks, that he or she may not even want to do, the less time the baker has to actually make the cookies, something he or she probably really does enjoy. This is where a VA could step in and help.

5 Reasons you need a Virtual Assistant

Now you may be thinking: why would I want to hire a VA? According to Rebecca Mason and Brainz Magazine, there are 5 great benefits to hiring a Virtual Assistant.

First reason is money.

It can be much more cost effective to hire a Virtual Assistant who doesn’t need benefits like health insurance, paid time off, and overtime, verses a traditional employee.

Second reason is support.

Businesses need man power or woman power to grow. This is especially the case for solo business owners or businesses with a small team.

Third reason is efficiency.

Third reason to hire a VA is that the business owner can focus on their business needs and not waste energy on tasks that can be delegated.

Fourth reason is TIME.

Virtual Assistants can give business owners the gift of time. According to the ServiceNow State of Work report, entrepreneurs spend an average of 16 hours every week on tasks that can be delegated. Those precious 16 hours can be better utilized for business activities or spent with family.

Fifth reason is the power of IDEAS!!

Lastly, Virtual Assistants are full of ideas! We can brainstorm and bring a different perspective. There can be passion in working together, something that may not necessarily be the case in a more traditional employer/employee working relationship.

I hope I’ve shed some light on what a Virtual Assistant is and why you need to hire one. Many VAs have their own areas of expertise and services. I would love to chat with you about my services and see if hiring a VA could be the right fit for you and your business!! Schedule a chat with me!!
